Saw this post over at the blog Fire Dayton Moore. It’s basically a list of GMDM’s biggest hits versus Insanity Wolf’s ramblings. And before I read that post, I had no idea who or what Insanity Wolf was, so if you don’t either, don’t sweat it. My personal favorite?
“Your team can’t score runs. Trade for a DH with a .299 OBP. Pay him millions.”
Afghanistan has been back in the news lately, along with a bunch of discussion of the supposed “return of MacArthurism” - check McChrystal’s speech, not the one Q&A segment, and the whole thing is pretty much pro current policy -but the one thing I haven’t heard anyone talking about is how we’re just setting ourselves up to make the exact same kinds of mistakes we’ve made before.
This isn’t a dig on the President. I mean, I voted for him, and I campaigned for him. Even met the guy once way back when he was a University of Chicago guy. And I have to say, W T F. I mean, we already knew the Nobel commitee harbored some hardcore “America Sucks” opinions, but this is just pretty much completely confirms it. Yes, we didn’t abrogate our constitution to give Bush & Torture/Graft Inc. another term. Yay us. But that’s not a reason to hand out the world’s formerly most prestigious award to someone 20 years early.
The Royals 2009 season ended fittingly for this team, namely, with three straight losses to the Twins so they could go on to the post season and get creamed by the Yankees. So while there’s still another good month or so of baseball left to be played, the offseason/hot stove league started for Royals fans on Sunday afternoon. Like everyone else with a Royals blog, I’m running a piece on how to fix, or at least moderately improve the team. After each position and suggested changes, I’ll list what appears to be the consensus from other Royals bloggers.
Ok, the title of this post is kind of a lie. I’ve never been a Lions fan, and I didn’t think Millen was a particularly good or capable GM. However, the more I see of this years Chiefs team, the more I think, wow, this is the most unwatchable, horrifying, awful, terrible football team I’ve ever seen. Then I wonder how long it will be until the tired old (but still funny, man that commercial rocked) “Chefs” jokes die out and the Chiefs start getting talked about in the same terms as the Bungles and the Faders.
Then I remember that until recently, there was always one GM and franchise in football that you could count on to completely screw up way worse and in more baffling and obscure ways that what your team was doing. And for a few minutes, I’m happy. Then I remember Matt Milled got fired last year.
So I guess I lied a bit at the start of this post, because I do miss Matt Millen. If nothing else, he made our incompetent guys look less incompetent by comparison. Sort of like a chubby guy standing next to Mark Mangino looks kinds not fat, our front office looked “good enough” when compared to the disaster in Detroit.

I know its literally been months since I’ve posted stuff, but there’s going to be a break until Monday since I have to go play Army with the National Guard this weekend. But there will be new content again starting Monday. Seriously.
I’ve read a fair amount in mainstream publications about how the financial industry over the last few years has become “too big” of a sector of the U.S. economy. There have also been numerous stories about this on television. The general storyline portrayed is that the financial services industry, as a percentage of the economy, has gotten too big and therefore is causing all sorts of problems. A further implied storyline is that no one is really sure why this is all happening and its beyond anyone’s control. The reality is not so much.
