Why torture doesn’t work
Andrew Sullivan has a post up today linking to a discussion of torture with the producer of the Fox TV show “24″. One of the things mentioned by the producer is that he doesn’t know if torture works or not. This is the biggest failure of the media in regards to the torture debate. Most people have no idea how torture works as an information gathering device and what its limits and advantages are. When Jack Bauer tortures some guy and gets the info, it happens because the script says it should for dramatic effect, not because that’s how things actually work. After the jump is a real example of what would happen if you needed information from someone and tried to use torture to obtain it.
