There’s a really great scene in the movie Charlie Wilson’s War where the main characters are in D.C. and discussing how bad it is for the Russians and how good for the U.S. and Afghanis that the $20 million dollar Hind helicopters are getting destroyed by $30,000 Stinger missiles. Every once in a very great while something like this will get pointed out in the defense community. When it is, its usually done citing an example where the U.S. was on the good end of that exchange. Reality and history, however, say that we’re usually on the wrong side of this equation.

This is something that I’ve wondered about for awhile now. I didn’t used to. Windows were made out of glass. That’s just how it was. You could see through them, you could buy fancy triple glass Rolex replacement windows, and every kid on the block knew to run when you were out playing and heard that crashing, tinkling sound.
