This just in via the War Nerd, it appears the Somali pirates have struck again. This time hitting a full oil tanker carrying two million barrels of crude oil worth an estimated $100 million. According to news reports, the vessel, the Sirius Star had a crew of 25 who are believed to be safe.

There has been a fair amount of talk and prognosticating about how to fix the military so that it’s set up to deal with counter-insurgency warfare while still remaining potent and effective at conventional warfighting. There has also been much talk of fixing and updating the procurement processes at the Pentagon. The best way to do both of these things at the same time is also the most radical option: eliminate some of the services, namely the Air Force and the Marines.

I’d like to add a new name to this list, and it’s not one that I’ve heard mentioned anywhere else: McDonald’s. Yeah, the restaurant with the red-headed clown and golden arches.
