Iraqi cabinet approves Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA)

Today Iraq’s 37 member cabinet approved the proposed SOFA between the U.S. and Iraq by a 27-1 margin.  Nine cabinet members were not present for the vote.  Right now it looks like the deal will pass the Iraqi Parliament in its current form.  So what exactly changes when the new agreement goes into effect on January 1st?  After the jump I’ve listed the sections of the agreement that most jumped out at me as being significant changes and what they mean for the U.S.  Italicized sections are directly copied from the SOFA.  Two sentence summary at the very end.

1-yard offense dooms Chiefs

Chan Gailey continued his offensive coordinating brilliance in today’s game versus New Orleans, unveling a half-shotgun 2-back formation.  Thigpen lines up in the spot normally used by a fullback in the I-formation, with the running back deep while the fullback lines up to the right and forward of the quarterback.  I’ve never seen anything like it before, and neither had anyone else at Lew’s sports bar.*  There was also some good use of the “Wildcat” formation and a great 35-yard run by Thigpen that appeared to be designed.
