Is Osama dead?

This is something that you really have to wonder about.  It’s been awhile since anyone has heard from him and its almost impossible to imagine OBL not wanting to get some reflected spotlight action by releasing a “you’re all going to die! ha ha ha!” tape.

I can think of two distinct possibilities here.  1) OBL wants one of the candidates to win and thinks releasing a tape would swing it against that candidate.  Possible, but unlikely.  2) He’s dead.  You’d think there would be some kind of announcement if he had died, if only to show that he was now forever beyond being caught by the infidels.

OBL is a prima-donna, so I don’t think he’d purposefully withhold a tape just to try and get someone elected, but if he did, then there’s going to be a tape within a day or two of the election at most just to prove to everyone that he’s still alive.  And to get some international attention/free recruitment time.  If there is no tape before the election, and not one immediately afterwards, then its possible that some random Predator strike hit the guy carrying the tape and they have to film a new one, in which case it’ll be a week or two.  Or you know, he’s dead or really, really close to it and can’t make any more tapes.

Too big to invest

When the Army teaches you first aid, they insist that you always go through all the steps of checking out what’s wrong with the person before you start treating them.  So even if its readily apparent they’ve got a broken arm, you still do all the checks for everything before you start.  This is important because there have been multiple instances of soldiers dying because their buddies treated the obvious shrapnel wound on their arm while they bled out through a cut in the back of their femoral artery.  The current bailout and analysis of the financial crisis reminds me of that training a lot.
